Tabasco Original Pepper Sauce

Scoville Heat Rating: 2,500-5,000

Love it or hate it, Tabasco has been around since 1868 and is still made exactly the same way it was in the beginning.  Made of just three simple ingredients: Aged
red peppers, Avery Island Salt and distilled high-grain natural vinegar, it is the “go to” sauce for many people.   Tabasco sauce is fermented in white Oak barrels little-tabasco1for up to three years and the flavor is accentuated by the natural flavors in the oak.  The result is a very smooth, fiery and incredibly pungent pepper sauce that is enjoyed all over the world.

My Review

This stuff packs a punch with its powerful smell and sock you in the face flavor.  Some people take offense to its strong vinegary taste, but to me that’s just part of this age old sauces charm.  The heat level is just right  without being overpowering.  The overall flavor is very complex for a three ingredient hot sauce.  This stuff has been made the same way for almost 150 years and is still very popular today (You know they’ve done something right!) There are tons of other sauces out there but Tabasco will always be on my shopping list.
